My garden grows.
Speak to me, Earth Mother. Tell me your secrets. Have I pleased you? What can I do to make it better. I will try, my heart. I will try.
This weekend I went to a native plant sale. That means all the plants are best for the environment here. The insects and animals appreciate having native things to eat. Building native habitats restores the land. Too often our decorative plantings don’t contribute to the habitat and just get in the way, decreasing the populations of important beings around us that contribute to our wellbeing. The pollinators need food. We eat what they pollinate. We can’t survive without them.
I worked in the garden with my cousin today. He did the heavy lifting, I did the directing. I do love him. He was extremely helpful. It gave my husband a much needed break from my requests. The trees we planted today will benefit my grands and great grands. I hope they plant more and care for Earth where ever they end up. That’s the hope. An instagram naturalist I follow taught me how to make wild violet syrup. We’ll be making some. I also bought elderberry jam after a conversation with a nice lady at a plant sale. I learned from her, she learned from me. I plan to use the elderberries I grow to make a syrup as well. Both wild violets and elderberry are great for your health. So in my yard I now also have paw paw, persimmon, fig and blueberry – all indigenous. Looking forward to watching them grow. It will be a while before I get anything from them. Trees require patience. They are worth it. Plant a tree as soon as you can.
