United Blackness
This womanness I give the world is bountiful
I still wonder what one may see as a threat
The black skin, loudmouth
Sense of self
Independence of mind
Teaching the girls power and confidence
As they threaten my rights to exist in autonomy
Taking my uterus as the domain of a man
Threatening my life with their guns
I see their weakness of spirit and mind as
Something to squash between my fingers.
Fell them to their knees and make them beg
For existence in a new world
Where blackness is celebrated, revered, and respected.
We grow from the motherland
Stronger from the injustices
Our genes remember the slave ships
The Jim Crow foolishness
Our Ancestors remember and embed it in our bodies to never forget
Get stronger
United State of Blackness
Weary from the killings of Grandmothers, sons, daughters
But fortitude is in each breath
Defeat is unacceptable.
Strength of character
Sense of self
Continues the Queen’s legacy
The original Mother
From the depths of Africa
Still bears children
Ready for equal footing
Justice
Reverence
Life.
